This is actually not as bad as it could have been. Thats not high praise, but some decent action sequences and a funny-campy performance by The Rock actually make this almost worth recommending. Based on the popular video game, the plot involves some nonsense regarding a lab where things have gone mightily wrong, and a group of soldiers must come to the rescue. When the mercenaries arrive, they discover that super-monsters running around in the corridors have rather disturbing origins. The Rock adds a certain amount of camp to his performance that wouldve worked better if the cast around him were in on the joke. Hes good, but the rest of the cast stinks. The films highlight is during a finale where we see monsters dispatched as if we were playing the videogame. Sure, the same effect can be achieved by actually playing the videogame, but a movie ticket costs $9, and a PlayStation 2 costs a couple hundred. A gory film that earns its R rating.
