Duplex

While not a terrible movie, Duplex is bad enough that it would have benefited tremendously from a subplot involving a war between vampires and werewolves. Ultimately, on a scale of one to 10, with seven being the highest and four the lowest, I’d give Duplex either a nine or a three (they’re equivalent, I think). It’s got a few laughs, but there’s too many scenes where Drew Barrymore throws up on Ben Stiller’s face, which is to say there is exactly one scene of that sort. Drew and Ben play newlyweds who move into a house in Brooklyn and then decide to kill their upstairs neighbor. It’s sort of like a reverse Thin Man, only without Myrna Loy and William Powell and wit and humor and sophistication. I guess what disturbs me most about this film is that I’m pretty sure that somewhere on the internet there’s a porn site showing an endless loop of the scene where Drew Barrymore throws up on Ben Stiller’s face. Proceed with caution.
