Dylan Dog is a popular Italian comic book about a London-based paranormal investigator. In this film adaptation, the location has changed to New Orleans, which makes sense for American audiences, because the Crescent City seems a little more in touch with the spirit world than, say, Des Moines, and it’s cheap to shoot movies there. Clearly, expenses were important for the producers, since Dylan Dog: Dead of Night barely has a congruent story, and producers didn’t spring for updated monster makeup. Brandon Routh (the one-time Superman) stars as Dylan Dog. His onscreen work is bad enough, and his hardboiled narration is downright silly. Boring, unentertaining and immediately forgettable, Dylan Dog is a lazy collection of genre staples that even the lowest-rent horror film has mostly outgrown.
