One of this young centurys worst movies,
Elektra is a textbook case in bad
writing. Instead of giving the audience
some compelling reason to root for the
films heroine, it instead starts with a
voiceover narration wherein we are
assured that those Japanese gentlemen
in the suits are evil and must be stopped.
What evil have they done or do they plan
to do? We dont know. Maybe theyre
supply-side economists who are
interested in moving the Social Security
fund out of government bonds and into
risky, private-sector investments. In any
event, the voiceover then assures us that
a bunch of other dudes in white robes are
good people, and then the movie begins
with some shots of our "heroine" killing,
like, 40 guys in cold blood. Luckily, shes
played by Jennifer Garner, who has
exactly one facial expression, which is
something like "is this a lemon Im
sucking on? Yeah, it must be a lemon."
The latter thought applies pretty well to
this entire film.
