Faster

Faster is a tough movie to review due to the fact that I went in expecting something completely different, due to the poor title and misleading marketing. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays “Driver,” a guy who gets out of prison and immediately sets out for revenge against the people who murdered his brother. He is pursued by two cops, Cicero (Carla Gugino) and “Cop” (Billy Bob Thornton), as well as rich hit-man “Killer” (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). Advertised as a sort of road-revenge picture, the movie is actually a dramatic whodunit that focuses more on Thornton’s drug-addicted detective than it does Johnson’s angry revenge-seeker. The twists and turns are easy to figure out, but the good actors in well-written roles make it work. It is, however, much heavier fare than I expected.
