While I never bought into the incredible
hype surrounding Fellini, I do think hes
made some great films. Nonetheless,
hearing him talk about his movies is
strangely more entertaining than
watching 8 or Satyricon.
Hes so engaging and jolly and honest,
and he has such insight into what makes
cinema work, that the portions of this film
that feature Fellini in talking-head
monologue mode turn out to be more fun
than the excerpts from his gorgeous, if
not always successful, movies. Any fan of
Fellini, or of cinema as personal art,
should enjoy this rare chance at seeing a
master of the form present himself as an
object for his own discipline.
