Her

Spike Jonze doesn’t entirely bottle the weird for his new film, Her, but it’s a more serious, human and heartfelt effort than Being John Malkovich or Adaptation. In the near future, lonely Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) buys a new, more intuitive operating system for his computer and falls in love. His OS, Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), is supposed to know everything about him and make his life easier. And for someone as fragile as Theodore, spending time talking to his computer slowly builds into something real for him, with all the emotions and complications of the relationship he had with his ex-wife (Rooney Mara). Simultaneously a cautionary tale of our addiction to devices and the beauty of finding the right person at the right time, Her is a milestone for an already accomplished director and one of the more arresting films in recent memory.

Her is not showing in any theaters in the area.
