James' Journey to Jerusalem

Yes he does. Well, to Tel Aviv at least, where he is used and abused by the locals, who act in a disturbingly stereotyped manner while good Christian James is slowly corrupted by their evil influence. But it’s OK: It’s all in the name of Capra-corn, that style of filmmaking best exemplified by Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. And this is really good Capra-corn, super-corny and with a hero who’s so likable you’ll want to swindle money from him or marry him off to your daughter. If you like the old-style movies with the noble heroes and the falls from grace and the Gary Cooper and the wonderful lives, you’ll no doubt enjoy this multi-national, sort-of updated version which somehow updates nothing of importance and therefore works.
