This may be the funniest movie of the year, and one of the most original. Robert Downey Jr. (in an amazingly good performance) plays Harry, a lowlife thief who stumbles into a film audition and finds himself at Hollywood parties. One thing leads to another, and Harry finds himself paired with a real-life private eye (Val Kilmer) for authentic acting lessons. When bodies start piling up, the two fly into action as one of the most mismatched pairs in recent cinema history. Downey and Kilmer bounce one-liners off each other at a breakneck pace, and their comic timing is incredible. Michelle Monaghan shines as an aspiring actress who gets mixed up in the mess. Downey and Kilmer havent had an opportunity for this much fun in years, and director Shane Black establishes himself as a force to be reckoned with. Nobody is going to this movie, and thats a shame. It deserves to be seen.
