Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man

I am not a Leonard Cohen fan, so this concert film came off to me as merely a never-ending and self-serving accolade to a now-71-year-old Canadian with a deep voice and dark humor. On the other hand, Cohen devotees will favor this documentary for promoting the singer-songwriter’s epic career of heavy and haunting lyrical poetry. Regardless of where one’s tastes lie, viewers will appreciate the turns Cohen’s life has taken, from the teachings of a Japanese Zen master to experiencing the Chelsea Hotel scene during its heyday to recording a song with U2’s Bono. Director Lian Lunson reveals the full personality of Cohen in between footage from a tribute concert held in 2005 at the Sydney Opera House with musical guests Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Antony and the Johnsons, among others.
