Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous

This entire movie is basically filler, just something for a bunch of Hollywood people to do while they rest between the incredible effort of actually having ideas. Sandra Bullock is perfectly charming as Gracie Hart, celebrity FBI agent, and William Shatner does his usual William Shatner in the role of, well, you know, it’s Shatner, so he’s playing Shatner. Ernie Hudson, everyone’s favorite Ghostbuster, turns in a performance that’s way better than this film deserves. Only Regina King, as Gracie Hart’s psychotic partner, Sam Fuller, is good enough to be awful in her role. The plot is about Hart’s attempts to cope with her newfound celebrity, and the kidnapping of her best friend, Miss USA pageant winner Cheryl Frazier (Heather Burns). Most of the action occurs in Vegas, because Vegas is so visually dense that filmmakers like to set films there in the hopes that audiences will be so dazzled by the lights that they won’t notice that there’s no plot or script. Guess what? This time, it didn’t work.
