Monogamy

It?s missing the punch of writer-director Dana Adam Shapiro?s terrific documentary Murderball, but his feature debut, Monogamy, is a decidedly smart thriller?one that might have developed into something pretty cool if Shapiro would have had a mulligan at his disposal. It?s a relationship ? thriller. Well, aren?t they all, when you get right down to it? A wedding photographer (Chris Messina) is closing in on his own trip down the aisle (with Rashida Jones) when he finds himself more and more infatuated with a mysterious exhibitionist. It?s actually pretty fertile ground for a thriller?just not this one. There are too many standard-issue plot devices as the ending approaches, and there?s not nearly enough for Rashida Jones to do.
