Nothing Like the Holidays

This film’s infectious charm and good humor outweigh its inconsistent tone and sitcom-like feel. A family full of Puerto Rican pride reunites for Christmas in their old Chicago home. Each family member carries a heavy burden—from fighting a deadly disease to being haunted by experiences in Iraq—and each problem is seemingly alleviated with a simple Hollywood Band-Aid. Nonetheless, the all-star cast, including Alfred Molina, Elizabeth Peña, John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman, delivers admirable performances and engaging, witty banter that will get viewers into the holiday spirit.
