A really effective film about three girls
bumming around Brooklyn in the last month
before their sophomore year in high school.
The script and actors perfectly reproduce the
sounds of the Brooklyn dialect, and the
meandering, plotless story is riveting by
virtue of its intense naturalism.
Documentary-style camera work and casting
that emphasizes a kind of ordinary appearance
enhance the effect. While it's rare that a
film that attempts realism is actually
engaging, Our Song succeeds because of
the quality of its small touches.
