Penelope

Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls said it best: “When you learn to love yourself, you will dissolve all the stones that are cast.” Admirably, writer Leslie Caveny conveys the same message in this modern-day fairy tale with a twist: Learning to love yourself instead will dissolve the centuries-old curse that turned your nose into that of a pig. Christina Ricci stars as the titular swine-snouted aristocrat whose character is disappointingly vapid. Fortunately, other characters are far more interesting, including Peter Dinklage’s one-eyed reporter in search of revenge, James McAvoy’s disheveled gambling addict and Reese Witherspoon’s raspy-voiced gothic barfly.
