Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Finally, a summer kid’s movie that delivers the goods! This is the second movie based on the popular Percy Jackson & the Olympians book series, and it towers over 2010’s The Lightning Thief. After Camp Half-Blood, a home for the half-breed children of Greek Gods and mere mortals, is invaded by a ferocious robotic bull, Jackson and his band of demigod buddies set out on a quest to find the Golden Fleece to save a magical tree that acts as the camp’s protective shield. Also along on the journey is Percy’s half-brother Tyson, a Cyclops. I do believe this is the first Cyclops in a major role since 1983’s Krull. On the quest they take a hellish taxi ride driven by the decrepit Graeae, fight a Manticore and ride a Hippocampus. Kids will love the manic energy and the excellent special effects, adults will groove on the not-so-subtle Indiana Jones vibe.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is not showing in any theaters in the area.
