Post Grad

I could list all of the talented actors that make up the supporting cast of this baby-chick flick—people like Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch and the legendary Carol Burnett—but then there might not be enough room to reflect upon how funny, moving and insightful their film … is not. Former Gilmore Girl Alexis Bledel stars as the ambitious Ryden, a recent graduate who planned her education out to the letter, only to find that her after-college life isn’t the career slam-dunk she assumed it would be. So it’s back home to live with her family, who are intended to be wacky (Big jewelry on Grandma! A little brother who licks people!), but come off as obnoxious. Faring just as badly is the otherwise charming Bledel, whose character elicits no empathy with her absurdly oblivious behavior toward the longtime friend (Zach Gilford from Friday Night Lights) who is, of course, mooning over our cornflower-eyed heroine. Just as predictably, it isn’t until he grows a pair that she’s really taken to school. Spoiler alert? Hardly.
