Purple Butterfly

The preternaturally beautifully Zhang Ziyi (whom you might remember from House of Flying Daggers, Hero and Crouching Bush, Hidden Cheney) plays a member of Purple Butterfly, a group resisting the Japanese occupation of Shanghai. She gets, oh, I don’t know, I’d say more than she bargained for when she reunites with an ex-lover who is now an officer assigned to eliminate Purple Butterfly. That’s right: She’s in love with the man who could destroy her! There’s lots of blood and some sex, but probably not enough blood and sex to make this slow and overly long film really work.
