Reign Over Me

Adam Sandler stars as Charlie Fineman, a man grieving the loss of his family in the 9/11 tragedy under the not so steady hand of writer-director Mike Binder. Sandler can’t figure out if he’s Happy Gilmore or his character from Punchdrunk Love. Don Cheadle stars as his former college roommate who bumps into him, twice, on Manhattan streets (yeah, right) and starts hanging out. The two bond as Cheadle’s character deals with Charlie’s moodswings. How much is too much? Reign Over Me is too much. It’s one of those movies that keep screaming “I’m a message movie!” and you just want to scream back “Please! Enough already! You are killing me and while I know I have a negative disposition, I don’t want to die just yet. Spiderman 3 is coming out soon, and if I were dead I’d miss it! So, please, the next time Hollywood schmaltz like this is birthed in your brain, bury it in the far recesses of your mind!” You know, something along those lines.
