Revolutionary Road

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reunite for another disaster movie, and this time, the sinking vessel is the marriage of Frank and April Wheeler. The film, based in 1955, tries to show that folks were just as dysfunctional 50 years ago. DiCaprio and Winslet tear into each other with a ferocity that is downright alarming. Those hoping for a moving love story after seeing the misleading commercials for this film are going to be surprised. It’s an emotional bloodbath, and nobody uncorks the hate like DiCaprio. The man is possessed in this movie. Winslet is great, too, but there are actually moments when she is outmatched. Directed by Sam Mendes, the film stands as a companion piece to American Beauty. Both films manage to be quite beautiful and miserable at the same time.

Revolutionary Road is not showing in any theaters in the area.
