Scary Movie V

I’m scratching my head over this one. My complaint isn’t that this latest sequel is ridiculous and moronic, but that it isn’t ridiculous and moronic enough. This series is clearly aimed at 13-year-old boys, but I counted just one fart joke and fewer than 20 dick jokes. What’s the deal? This time around, Paranormal Activity, Mama, Black Swan, Evil Dead and Rise of the Planet of the Apes get the majority of the spoof treatment. There’s a lot of opportunity to cram every scene with sight gags and other visual buffoonery, but it never really happens and there’s far too much dead air. If you’re going to make the cinematic equivalent of Mad magazine, don’t forget those little Sergio Aragonés doodles that dot every page! There are a few chuckles to be had, but not nearly enough to justify the ticket price.
