Shine a Light

A few songs into this movie, I thought: “Say, I really don’t like the Rolling Stones.” Still, director Martin Scorsese does a decent job of capturing them in a Beacon Theatre concert with guests like Buddy Guy, Jack White and Christina Aguilera. I certainly don’t think the Stones are a bad band, but I’ve always sort of seen them as a bunch of clowns (especially Keith Richards). Now that they are in their mid-60s, I find them quite interesting, but I still think The Who, the Beatles and even Pink Floyd made better music. If you are a fan, you’ll like this a lot more than I did. If you think “Start Me Up” is a crap song, then you’ll probably find yourself slightly amused, at best, by the fact that these guys keep doing this. The Clintons make an appearance at the film’s beginning, and Mick Jagger almost seems pissed off to meet them. I fear that Keith Richards will simply melt one of these days.
