Shortbus

Director John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) has made one of the very few films where the depiction of sexuality is central to character. It’s not an “erotic” movie, but one about the way people interact sexually, with all the comedy and embarrassment that comes with that. The cast of unknowns is great, and they helped create their own characters, lending an odd naturalism to things like a man singing “The Star Spangled Banner” into another man’s anus. Really, what more needs to be said?
