This is a painfully mawkish film by James
Redford, whose only excuse for making
this is that hes Robert Redfords son.
Spin is the story of a Tucson youth
whose parents are killed in a plane
crash, and who then grows up to fall in
love with a Mexican girl and blah blah
blah. Lots of awful dialogue (including the
most over-used exchange of all time "I
dont understand," "Someday you will,"
the very typing of which should disqualify
someone from membership in the
Writers Guild) and bathetic, manipulative
music ruin what, in the hands of a better
writer and director, could have been a
decent film. Not a great film, mind you, but
one that didnt make me feel like
someone was pushing a sugar-coated
emotion-knife into my gut and twisting it
for an hour and a half.
