Step Up 3D follows a group of dancers, led by Luke (Rick Malambri), who live in a warehouse. The place is under the threat of foreclosure—and could be sold to a jealous rival. In order to save their beloved abode, the gang recruits a college kid, and they take their chances at The World Jam, a huge dance competition. The dance sequences are spectacular—some of the coolest and most amazing I’ve ever seen put on film. Because of those sequences, the film can actually be enjoyable, despite the unintentionally hilarious “drama” that’s thrown in to give the movie some “substance.” The film has no business being in 3-D, however; there are relatively few sequences that make use of the technology.
