Still Mine

Farmer Craig Robinson (James Cromwell) is older now but isn’t about to stop working altogether. His wife, Irene (Geneviève Bujold) has started to lose her memory, so Craig decides to build a smaller, more accessible home for their golden years. But he hasn’t hired approved contractors and hasn’t submitted plans for his construction project to the local government in New Brunswick, and the government is trying to stop him from completing the house. It seems ridiculous, but Still Mine is based on an actual event very much like this. It doesn’t stray too far from where you’d expect, given the dual plotlines, but the quality of the film comes from the performances. Bujold, who hasn’t been in a memorable film in years, is top-notch, and Cromwell, having served so many films well in supporting roles, finally has a terrific lead performance to add to his résumé.
