Keanu Reeves is sleazy fun as Det. Tom Ludlow, a Los Angeles cop who is the go-to guy for Capt. Jack Wander (Forest Whitaker) when something nasty needs to be done. After a former partner is executed, and hes a suspect in the crime, Ludlow must conduct his own investigationand hes not going to like what he finds out. Reeves is good in this sort of role: a dirty guy with a nice soul busting to get out. Whitaker is balls-out nuts as his commander, and Chris Evans continues to impress as an up-and-comer who rides with Ludlow on his investigation. Youve seen all this stuff before, but director David Ayer, who made the vastly underrated Harsh Times, has a knack for crazy action and bad dudes. The film wont increase your brainpower, but it will provide ample entertainment. It will also offer Reeves fans with another reason to claim the guy isnt as bad of an actor as the media has made him out to be. OK, maybe his acting is kind of bad, but I still like him.
