The Devil's Double

Latif Yaiha was a soldier in the Iraqi army when Uday Hussein selected him to be his double, or fiday. Thankless duty, that. The role of Uday's fiday was to travel to the more-dangerous ports of call; by the time he fled Iraq, Latif had dodged assassins' bullets several times, including at least one attempt by Uday himself. The Devil's Double recounts Latif's life as someone else, with Dominic Cooper portraying both the reasonable, moderate Latif and the unbelievably crazy Uday. He's really top-notch. Unfortunately, Cooper is not given much support from director Lee Tamahori or the rest of the cast. The film doesn't exactly fall completely apart—the story is a little too rich on its own for that—but the payoff is terribly sour.

The Devil's Double is not showing in any theaters in the area.
