The Fourth Kind

The Fourth Kind makes a very slow yet violent assault on one’s intelligence. Milla Jovovich plays Dr. Abigail Tyler, a psychiatrist who gets roped into finishing her recently deceased husband’s research on people in Nome, Alaska, who are experiencing strange phenomena. While this film is supposedly based on “actual case studies,” overwhelming evidence to the contrary has been unearthed. What truly makes the movie so egregious, though, is the fact that the filmmakers are trying to make money off of the real-life departed and disappeared. This doesn’t just insult the viewer’s intelligence; it disregards the memories of the missing and dead, making it an embarrassing, insensitive cash-in that leaves a bad taste lingering long after it’s over.
