The Girl

I always found it odd that so few Tucsonans knew that Monique Wittig, one of the greatest French feminist novelists of the 20th century, lived in our fair town. Sadly, Wittig passed away last year, but you can celebrate her work and memory by attending this special screening of The Girl, a film based on one of her stories. It’s thrilling and erotic, though, technically, not an erotic thriller. It is rather a sort of lesbian romance film noir, with some really hot scenes and lots of brooding along the Seine. But even if you’re not into well-lit lovemaking, you should go just to benefit the Monique Wittig Writer’s Project: Your entire admission fee goes to this worthy scholarship, and also buys you admission to a reception with the Betty Diamond Band after the film.

The Girl is not showing in any theaters in the area.
