The Last Mimzy

Intelligence can’t be gained through genetics, studying and hard work, but it can be gained by interacting with mystical toys engineered by a mad scientist. At least that’s the argument presented in the short story on which this sci-fi flick is based. Two young tots discover a mysterious metallic box that contains odd objects, including a ragged and sonorous rabbit, all of which possess special and unknown powers. When the underachieving video-game junkie and his little sister transform into child prodigies, the source of their genius becomes clear, and workaholic Dad (Timothy Hutton) and straight-laced Mom (Joely Richardson) find it concerning. Director Robert Shaye’s child-friendly film takes awhile to get going, but those with patience and superficial viewing intentions will enjoy The Last Mimzy.
