The Lincoln Lawyer

I’ve had it up to here with lawyer movies, but this one isn’t bad at all. Matthew McConaughey plays Mick Haller, a slick and greasy lawyer who takes on the case of a rich boy (Ryan Phillippe) who is accused of beating up a prostitute. By the time things go to trial, some major developments involving his client’s innocence come into play, and Mick finds himself in some precarious positions. McConaughey is good here, as is Marisa Tomei as his sometime-love interest and frequent court opponent. Phillippe drags the movie down when he is onscreen, but this is mostly McConaughey’s show, and he’s in good form.

The Lincoln Lawyer is not showing in any theaters in the area.
