Yawn. Stretch. After seeing this pointless
flick of ultimate boredom, the
consequential need for sleep still
persists. Unless youre a carefree
10-year-old girl with flightless fantasies of
overused fairytales, youll be reaching for
a pillow, too. In this trite sequel with a
main purpose of turning a quick buck,
Anne Hathaway reprises her role as the
princess of the fictitious Genovia where
cardboard cutout storefronts and
paint-by-number landscapes are
commonplace. After muddling through
the princess-in-training slapstick in the
2001 original, the future queen searches
for a husband in order to appease an
arbitrary royal loophole. To throw another
predictable wrench into the stale
storyline, a greedy sweet-talking pretty
boy contends for the crown and for
Princess Mias heart. Garry Marshall
directs again, though this time he just
goes through the motions with feeble
attempts to entertain the small target
audience. What would really delight us all
is for this to be the last entry of the
Princess Diaries.
