This documentary about the theft of Europe’s artistic treasures by the Nazis is a Documentary About The Theft Of Europe’s Artistic Treasures By The Nazis. Every moment in it is capitalized and emphasized, with one of the most annoying voiceover narrations (by Joan Allen, who sounds like she just swallowed Charlton Heston) I’ve ever heard. I’m sure there are a lot of interesting things to be said about this topic, and they’re probably all in The Rape of Europa, but I could barely sit through its incompetent and painfully self-important declamations. I mean, yeah, some Picassos got stolen. But guess what else happened in World War II? So maybe show a little humility about that damaged Degas, OK?
