The Signal

The sci-fi is only OK in the sci-fi thriller "The Signal." It's about a couple computer geniuses who see something they can't explain and then wake up in some weird throwback medical testing facility surrounding by doctors in hazmat suits. What's with all the prodding and how can they get out? And where are they? Pretty typical government paranoia stuff. But sweet Spielberg, the cinematography in this thing is just incredible. If for no other reason, fans of gorgeous camera work should put "The Signal" on their must-see list. It's amazing how far digital technology has come, to the point now that it's helping filmmakers like director William Eubank create visual landscapes like we've never seen before. In this case, though, it just overpowers the so-so story. But as an art appreciation class, there's lots to admire.
