The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls

In New Zealand, Jools and Lynda Topp are beloved performers, an acoustic country-folk duo whose shows are highlighted by comedy and several character-driven gimmicks. They’re also lesbian twins, which has certainly informed their intertwined music and politics. This new documentary about their lives and career is more of a portrait than a fact-finding mission—but that’s perfectly fine. Odds are that any fact in this film will be a revelation to most, since the Topp Twins have never achieved true international fame. They harmonize well on and off the stage, and director Leanne Pooley does a great job of showcasing the sisters’ personalities and their history, providing both a tribute and very good introduction.

The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is not showing in any theaters in the area.
