This Is Where I Leave You

Funny in spots but largely predictable, the family comedy “This is Where I Leave You” brings together plenty of people you’d like to see in a movie like — Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Rose Byrne — and just serves them half-baked dialogue in the service of a largely unoriginal story. The family all comes together for Dad’s funeral, and the week together goes just as you’d expect. There are laughs, tears, and a few punches, but whatever mash-up of “Arrested Development” and “August: Osage County” they were going for with this one never truly materializes. Although it’s not an abject failure (with Tina Fey and Jason Bateman, there’s enough batting practice here to be amusing), “This is Where I Leave You” sure ought to be a lot better.

This Is Where I Leave You is not showing in any theaters in the area.
