Tron: Legacy

Should you choose to see TRON: Legacy in IMAX 3-D, you will enjoy the biggest sensory overload at the movies since Avatar. As in that film, there are some story problems in TRON: Legacy that keep this 3-D science-fiction epic from the greatest possible heights, but they probably won’t factor into whether or not a genre fan loves this next-generation sequel. What may pump the brakes, however, is a particularly bad bit of CGI—depicting a digital villain in a world of humans—that looks terribly out of place alongside the other sumptuous, imaginative and even useful visual effects. Entertaining but not tremendously so, and not thrilling enough to be considered much of a joy ride, TRON: Legacy is probably a good bet for geeks, but it’s not a must-see for anyone else.
