We Don't Live Here Anymore

With Mark Ruffalo and Naomi Watts together in one movie, there’s almost too much good acting here. It’s tempered by the standard awful Laura Dern performance, but there’s some decent backup from Peter Krause to keep things from getting all emote-y and high-school-drama-class-adaptation-of- Mourning-Becomes-Electra. Basically, this is the story of two couples (Ruffalo and Dern are one; Watts and Krause the other) who sort of swap spouses and then have feelings about it. The script and acting make this more than worthwhile, and while the second act is a bit slow, it all bubbles up beautifully in the end. Then again, Ruffalo and Watts could make a reading of Bill Clinton’s My Life into engaging evening entertainment.
