There have now been two fairly high profile films funded through Kickstarter campaigns. The first was the Veronica Mars movie, which for all the talk about audiences wanting one, did almost zero at the box office. The latest Kickstarter movie is Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here. Unfortunately, there’s nothing noteworthy about the story or the technique other than the Kickstarter footnote, with Braff far-too-gently walking on the same ground he tread in 2004’s Garden State. This time, however, his setup about an unemployable actor character with family problems stalls over and over again, and he doesn’t offer any sage advice for how to solve any of those situations. All is not completely lost, however: As Braff’s father and daughter, respectively, Mandy Patinkin and Joey King steal the show.
