An all-star cast, featuring such great
character actors as Bruce Davison (who
played Willard in the original
Willard), Brian Cox (the first actor
ever to play Hannibal Lecter), Alan
Cummings (who, in spite of having
played The Great Gazoo in The
Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas is
really an excellent performer), Patrick
Stewart (who played the bald Captain
Kirk-type guy in that TV show about outer
space) and Ian McKellen (who is best
known for being the only cast member of
the elf-drenched Lord of the Rings
to be openly gay) overpowers this movie,
which has too many parts to do any of
them justice. The plot, about an attempt
by the U.S. government to wipe out all of
the super-powered mutants in the world,
is certainly the basis for a workable
superhero movie, and the effects and
action sequences are really top-notch, but
ultimately theres too much plot, too many
characters and not enough depth to make
this movie entirely successful. Still, if you
like seeing blue, super-powered naked
people with guns, I can think of no better
movie for you.
