Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks play the title characters, and they do what the title implies. When money problems get so bad that Miri must rely on toilet water to rinse her hair, and Zack burns bills in a trash can for warmth, the two best friends and roommates decide to make a porno as part of a get-rich scheme. Writer-director Kevin Smith mines the world of Internet porn for many good laughs, and it helps to have Rogen in his cast; the man is getting funnier with each film. The movie gets a tad predictable and corny, but there are enough hilariously profane moments to balance things out. Smith standby Jason Mewes gets some of the film’s biggest laughs as a porn star, and real-life porn queen Katie Morgan shows she’s equipped with some decent comic timing. This one almost got the dreaded NC-17 rating; it’s a pretty extreme R.
