Yes, It’s Real. Mary Timony’s D.C. power pop quartet Ex Hex ripped through Club Congress, this Sunday past, effortlessly proving that they are “Tough Enough.” L.A.’s psych/punk/grunge/post-future rockers Feels and local mystics Lenguas Largas opened the show. Chaos ensued.

Broadway in Tucson: CATS.
Ah, Cats. One of the most divisive musicals out there: You either love it or you hate it. You might not expect a musical about the internet’s favorite animal to garner anything other than praise, but some people just aren’t into it. But considering it’s won seven Tonys, has been translated into 15 languages and has set longevity records on both sides of the Atlantic (it ran for 21 years in London!), it’s the sort of thing that you really shouldn’t judge until you’ve seen it. Plus, most of the songs are straight up just T.S. Eliot poems. Worth checking out, no? Tuesday, April 30, through Sunday, May 5., with evening shows at either 6:30, 7:30 or 8 p.m., a Saturday 2 p.m. matinee, and a Sunday 1 p.m. matinee. Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd. $19 to $120+. Details here.

Events compiled by Briannon Wilfong, Emily Dieckman, B.S. Eliot and Jeff Gardner.

Tucson-based nonprofit Save the Pets AZ will once again host its Win-A-Flight fundraiser this weekend.

The charity, which aims to save pets at risk of being euthanized in shelters around Tucson, will be giving away a Sunset Airplane ride over Tucson, featuring an experienced pilot and a free bottle of champagne.

Shelter Director Kay Garcia, who is in charge of the fundraiser, calls the event a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for dog and pet lovers.

"It's time to slip the surly bonds of earth and dance the sky on laughter-silvered wings," Garcia quoted poet John Gillespie Magee, Jr. in an email.

Interested? Purchase raffle tickets online at ThePetsAZ.com, with one ticket going for $8, or three for $20.

One winner will be selected this Saturday, May 4, giving one local person the chance to soar amongst the clouds, while supporting animals in-need at the same time.

With an impressive arsenal of chart topping hits to draw from, three of country music’s biggest artists—Terri Clark, Pam Tillis and Suzy Bogguss—perform an intimate evening of acoustic music.

“I’d been thinking about putting this together for years,” says Clark. “There is a short list of women that have the hits to back it up. Pam and Suzy are a great fit.”

Chicks With Hits promises to be packed with A-list musicianship, stories, girl power, harmonies and more. At the Fox Theatre. Details here.
