VISIONS BENEFIT. 318 E. Ft. Lowell Road. Dance Visions
celebrates the construction of their two new studios with a benefit
performance featuring the efforts of a wide range of Tucson dancers
and choreographers at Announcements AFRICAN DANCE. Learn the movements of dance from Guinea, Senegal, Nigeria and Afro-Brazilian and Cuban regions with teacher Denise Hawthorne Bey. You'll also learn the intricacies of the music, and the traditional songs and their meanings. Classes meet at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost is $10 general, $8 for students, and $5 for kids grades K through 12. The location of the classes has recently changed. Call 623-8231 for new location information. AUDITION NOTICE. The Isis Dance Theater Company is holding auditions for intermediate to advanced ballet, jazz and/or modern dancers over age 30 for forthcoming fall and spring productions. The company is also looking for actors and singers over age 30 for an original, one-act musical production. Auditions are by appointment only, and will continue until all positions are filled. Singles and couples of all skill levels are welcome. Experience a touch of sophistication and romance with theme-dress occasions and a large, decorated ballroom. The Tucson Friends of Traditional Music present old-time Contra dances to live string band music for singles, couples and beginning and advanced dancers alike. The dance is from 8 to 11 p.m. and there's an introductory session prior to the dance at 7:45 p.m. Dances are Friday, May 8, at Dance Visions studio, 318 W. Ft. Lowell Road, and Saturday, May 16, at the Armory Park Recreation Center, 220 S. Fifth Ave. Call 327-1779 for information. DANCE AND DRUMS. The Barbea Williams Performing Company offers classes in Pre-African and Pre-Ballet for children; African Brazilian/West African, African Cuban/West African, and West African drum lessons for teens and adults. A free buffet is offered until 8 p.m., with coffee and cake on the tables till 11 p.m. Singles Unlimited hosts this weekly affair, with a special admission of only $6 for newcomers. songs and dances of West Africa and the West African Diaspora
from master dancer Donald Eno Washington. Mixed-level classes
meet from 7:15 to WEST AFRICAN DRUM. Learn the rhythms of Guniea and Mali in a relaxed atmosphere. Beginning and intermediate classes are now forming. Classes meet for an hour and a half once each week. The cost is $40 per four week session or $12 per class. Registration is ongoing. Club every Thursday evening. Lessons are from 7 to 7:45 p.m. for
beginners, and 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. for intermediate dancers. General
dancing continues until 10:30 p.m. No partner necessary. Cost
