MUSICEvents This Week
COURTYARD CONCERT SERIES. Plaza Palomino, at Swan and Fort
Lowell roads. The Courtyard Concert Series features traditional,
world-folk, Cajun and blues artists performing selected Saturdays
though September. The Balalaika Orchestra Ensemble performs traditional
Russian folk music, and features the dancing of the Kalinka Russian
folk dancers, from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 1. Tickets are
$10 in advance, $12 the day of the show, available at Plaza Palomino

SEBESTYÉN AND MUZSIKÁS. Temple of Music And Art. 330 S. Scott Ave. Márta Sebestyén, the vocalist featured in the movie the The English Patient, performs with Muzsikás and Hungarian folk dancers from the Kodály Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, August 2. Casino of the Sun is looking for Tucson-area based bands to compete live in their Hot August Night promotion. The bands will be judged by the audience, Casino of the Sun employees, and a professional from a national music label. First place is $3,000, second place $1,500, and third place band $500. WEST AFRICAN DRUM. Learn the rhythms of Guinea and Mali
in a relaxed atmosphere. Beginning and intermediate classes are
now forming. Hour-and-a-half classes meet once each week. Cost
is $40 per four-week session, or $12 per class. Registration is
